What IS a community foundation?

Community foundations are an international movement and there are 47 in the UK  looking after every corner of the country. Working in specific geographic areas, they connect philanthropic people with local causes that matter to them. They build endowments and generate funds to support community needs and local organisations making a difference.  Community foundations offer grant-making programmes funded by donations from individuals, families, businesses as well as grants from other bodies, such as the Government.

The funding really took away the stress associated with finding funding to keep the Youth Cafe going last year.  As a result of us being able to continue, last week we hit record attendance numbers of 24 young people!

 

We have a number of events lined up, including Warhammer sessions (kindly donated by Warhammer) and we are planning for the colder months.

Staunton on Wye Youth Café – Iron Fund (Oct 2024)

You have been fundamental to the success of the MARS (mixed ability rowers) programme at Ross Rowing Club.

 

I wanted to share some unsolicited feedback from a young woman, Marsaili Heatley who uses a wheelchair, who came to us for a social event, had a chat with some of the MARS gang, came back on Sunday and ended up rowing.   She sent me this message shortly afterwards.

“Thank you so much for helping me believe that I can. So often people take one look at me and all they see is the visible and presume I can’t… What you have set up is something truly wonderful, so liberating, so enabling, so freeing – and the rowing club should be extraordinarily proud of it.”

 

We had nine new people added to seven existing regulars last Sunday.   Please enjoy how much impact your support has given to these people and many more.
