Applications Open for Becket Bulmer Fund
The Becket Bulmer Fund is open for applications! It is focused on projects that promote cultural advancement, especially theatre, music and arts, as well as enhancing the education of young people, improving the environment and supporting those with a disability.
Over the last year, grants have been awarded to some fantastic projects, with the average grant being around £2300. The fund panel meets quarterly to agree grants and we thought we would share a few examples of successful projects to give you a flavour of the type of thing they are looking for:
Green Eyed Monster Co: Supported a project working with adults with disabilities, Echo and Rose-Tinted Rags which culminated in a professional exhibition at The Courtyard to showcase stitchery, painting and performance work by participants.
Courtyard Centre for the Arts: Funded a collaborative project with Feral Productions for Hereford Promenade Theatre called The Word on the Street. It has been a great opportunity for the local arts community to showcase their talent. The Director of The Word on the Street, Ant Stones is from Herefordshire and has praised the love of the subject and the area shown in the scripts produced by Feral Productions writing group; as well as the enthusiasm of local actors some of whom have worked in the county for many years and some at the start of their careers – “It has been lovely to bring all these people together.”
Orleton Local History Project: Received funding to display the history of World War II with specific connections to Orleton. The project as a whole promotes social cohesion and wellbeing, whilst providing a positive way for those with mental health issues and dementia to continue to be involved in their local community.
Melody Dance Co: Supported regular freestyle/street dance classes for local schools in the most deprived areas of Hereford and Leominster, creating the opportunity to attend a weekly term time class.
Growing Local CIC: Have received funding to run adult-guided Volunteer Sessions to assist with the development of their new gardens and have followed this with workshops for children and young people.
The Big Skill CIC: Offered sustainable crafts workshops, designed to enable the participants to raise funds for continuing workshops via donations, the sale of goods produced, grant applications and sponsorship.
