Grants of up to £10k available to youth projects in North Herefordshire
Herefordshire Community Foundation today announces that it is inviting community groups working with young people in the north of the county to apply for grants of up to £10k from its Teme Valley Youth Fund.
The aim is to build on the success of past grants which have been awarded to a wide range of projects, from Teme Valley Young Farmers to Dirty Feet Dance.
Bridie Sullivan, CEO, Herefordshire Community Foundation explains what they are looking for, “We are keen to support projects which inspire 11 to 25 year olds to volunteer, play an active role in their local communities, develop new skills and advance their education.”
The Teme Valley Youth Fund is designed to benefit those living in North Herefordshire and South Shropshire, including the market towns of Kington and Leominster. Parishes within the eligibility area range from Leintwardine to Lyonshall – View map of eligibility area.
A diverse range of projects has been supported in the past, such as a five-day Dirty Feet Dance Summer School where industry professionals shared their skills in breakdance, rap, DJing and graffiti art with young participants. Meanwhile, The Cracked Slipper Company used their grant to reach out to young people who would not normally access the arts due to financial and social barriers. They worked on a drama piece focused on bullying which culminated in a live performance and a film. The project gave participants a positive way to express themselves and the issues important to them, whilst making friends and gaining a support network.
Teme Valley Young Farmers used support from the Fund to provide professional training to all members on an inclusive basis, regardless of income, whilst Wigmore Village Community Centre focused on upskilling young people and providing work experience. Activity included the opportunity to assist with the running of the community cafe and receiving formal training in subjects such as customer relationships, managing cash and writing CVs.
